Our story

Born the son of a shepherd, Tomaso’s life is connected with nature since its very beginning. He learns to observe every aspect of it and care for animals and plants. His passion and curiosity inspire him to explore vast areas of the territory of Irgoli.

The mountainous area of hometown Irgoli are stunning, but his favourite is a spot not far from his home: Conca Fraicata, where he often spends time with friends, is also the area where it’s possible to admire the largest and most fascinating cave, “Sa conca de sos Nugoresos”.

In 1992, together with his wife Caterina, he starts  an itinerant business that will flourish for the following 31 years: every summer they run a small kiosk on the beaches of Dorgali municipality. A rewarding but also demanding job, in his free time he recharges through his passion for nature, later transmitted to his wife and three daughters.

In 2019 the much-loved area is put for sale; already planning the purchase, he guides his family in a wonderful trip to discover the place. The area is abandoned and overgrown, paths are unpracticable and walking along is made difficult by brambles and tall cistus shrubs; nonetheless, every step forward promises magic, until finally arriving to the grandiose “Sa Conca de sos Nugoresos”, that wins over the newcomers’ hearts.

In a short time Tomaso and Caterina become owners of the land, and after months of hard work the area is made a welcoming place again. Tomaso brings wonderful shapes back from out of the wilderness and also restores the many manuments hidden around the area; there is a vague idea about promoting the area, but the main motivation is passion, almost devotion towards this special place.

In 2021 the youngest daughter Maria Luisa, who bonded the most with the area, forms Associazione Orma (Orma Association) to promote the area by hosting different activities: yoga retreats, sound baths, walks, children’s activities and more, creating opportunities to collaborating with many different professionals.

Visitors are captivated by the atmosphere of the place, and many are given the impression of taking back home a lightness that wasn’t there before, a magical experience.

Maria Luisa decides to rebrand the area as a Natural Park and start a business activity, in the hopes of introducing a wider public to this space of peace and positive energy.

The first obstacle was with her parents, whose point of view is still a business owner’s, to understand how different it is to offer the possibility of an experience, something much deeper than selling a product.

Only later, as the first visitors insist on meeting them and thanking them for making this experience possible, they understand the real importance of the project.

As of the 2nd May 2023 Orma Therapy Natural Park is made a reality, where emotion, wonder and curiosity still live in the eyes of its promoters as if not a day has passed since the beginning.

Our goal

We believe that in most recent times progress and technology have made people distant from their habitat, thus sacrificing our connection to earth and everything that it has to offer and teach.

What Natural Park Orma Therapy aims to be is a path to reconnecting with nature through activities planned for the best kind of experience. Respect, simplicity, sharing and optimism are our team' s key principles.

We aim to promote respect for the area we care for and for nature as a whole, with simplicity as the key to sharing special moments with our guests.

We proceed with optimism and determination in out goal to promote and preserve the park’s natural charm.

Conche

The literal meaning of the word “conca” would be “head” in Sardinian; it’s also used to indicate natural rock formations that take the shape of large or small caves. Similarly, the translation of “Vraicata” means “built”. This toponym is almost certainly derived from the presence in the area of many granite caves, sometimes fitted with dry stone walls and used as a shelter for both animals and people.

Granite rocks carved by atmospheric agents are the eccentric protagonists of Natural Park Orma Therapy, eliciting wonder and curiosity in visitors.

Irgoli

Irgoli’s territory is part of the Baronie region in the east-centre of Sardinia.

Geological events in this mountainous territory resulted in granite formations of fantastic shapes,  an unique characteristic of Irgoli’s landscape.

At a short distance from the coast, Irgoli is a place where sea and mountain meet: from its mountaintops you can see most of the eastern cost of the Island.

Irgoli has more to offer than beautiful landscapes: its territory holds precious testimony of ancient Sardinian history.

The Antiquarium museum of history and the Nuragic sanctuaries of Janna’e Pruna and Su Natante allow visitors a unique perspective into Sardinia’s cultural roots.

In the streets of Irgoli, culture, art and tradition are just behind the corner: several murals can be found on its walls, depicting rural scenes and moments of past history.
